Weather in Solomon Islands

The best time to visit the Solomon Islands is during the dry season, which runs from April through November. During these months humidity drops to more bearable levels, rainfall is less frequent, and the seas are calm enough for comfortable inter-island travel by boat. Temperatures hover comfortably between 24°C and 30°C year-round, but the dry season makes long days of diving, snorkelling, and island-hopping far more enjoyable. Visibility underwater is also best from May to October, when currents carry less sediment.

The wet season (December through March) brings heavy, often daily rainfall, rougher seas, and the possibility of tropical cyclones, though the Solomon Islands sits at the southern edge of the main cyclone belt. Travelling during the wet season is possible but requires more flexibility and a higher tolerance for disrupted transport schedules. If your primary interest is diving, the Western Province is best visited between April and June, when hammerhead sharks, whale sharks, and mantas are more frequently encountered. Honiara can be visited year-round, as its sheltered position moderates seasonal extremes somewhat.
