Weather in Spain

Spain's geography creates dramatically different climates across its regions, making timing a matter of which Spain you want to experience. For the classic coastal and city experience, spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October) offer the most pleasant conditions — comfortable temperatures, manageable crowds, and the full vitality of local life without the crushing heat of July and August, when the interior can exceed 40°C.

Summer remains popular for beach destinations along the Costa Brava, Costa del Sol, and the Balearic Islands (Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca), despite the heat and crowds — the sea is warm, the evenings long and magical, and the festival calendar is packed. Northern Spain — Galicia, the Basque Country, and the green coast of Cantabria — is actually at its best in summer, enjoying milder temperatures while the south bakes. Winter in the Canary Islands (Tenerife, Gran Canaria) delivers warm sunshine when the rest of Europe is cold, making them a hugely popular winter escape. Ski season in the Pyrenees and Sierra Nevada runs from December to March.
