Weather in Sudan

Sudan has an extreme continental climate, and the only practical time to visit is during the cooler months from October through March. November to February offers the most comfortable temperatures, with daytime highs in the north ranging from 25°C to 35°C rather than the lethal 45°C+ of summer. The desert air is dry and clear, making daylight hours pleasant for archaeological exploration, and nights can be surprisingly cold in the desert regions.

The peak months for visiting the Meroe pyramids and Nile Valley sites are December through February, when temperatures are ideal for outdoor sightseeing. March begins to heat up rapidly, and by April the country becomes extremely hot. The rainy season from July through September brings flooding in some regions and makes travel to southern areas difficult, though northern Sudan remains relatively dry year-round. Avoid visiting during the hottest months of May and June when temperatures regularly exceed 45°C and outdoor exploration is genuinely dangerous without rigorous preparation.
