Weather in Suriname

Suriname has a tropical climate influenced by two rainy seasons and two dry seasons. The main dry season runs from February through April and is generally considered the best time to visit, particularly for exploring the capital and interior rainforest. The shorter dry season from August through November also offers favourable conditions. During these periods, roads are more passable, rivers are at manageable levels for canoe travel, and wildlife is easier to spot near water sources.

The two rainy seasons — the main one from April through August and a shorter one from November through January — do not make travel impossible, but river levels can make interior journeys more challenging or actually open up areas inaccessible in the dry season by boat. Temperatures remain consistently warm year-round, hovering between 26°C and 32°C with high humidity. The rainforest is genuinely spectacular year-round, and Paramaribo's cultural life, markets, and restaurants are excellent whatever the season. December sees vibrant festivities around the Javanese and Creole new year celebrations.
