Weather in Syria

The ideal time to visit Syria is during the spring months of March through May, when temperatures across the country are pleasantly mild, wildflowers carpet the hillsides of the Qalamoun Mountains, and the ancient ruins glow in clear golden light. Damascus hovers around 18–22°C during this season, making sightseeing comfortable and walking tours of the Old City a genuine pleasure. April is particularly beautiful, as fruit trees blossom in the valleys surrounding the capital.

Autumn — September through November — offers another excellent window for travel. After the searing heat of summer recedes, temperatures settle back into a comfortable range, and the harvest season brings an abundance of fresh produce to the local markets. The Syrian Desert, including the area around Palmyra, becomes more approachable in these cooler months. Winter (December to February) can be cold and wet, especially in the western mountain ranges, though the coastal regions around Latakia remain relatively mild. Summer heat in the interior can exceed 35°C, making outdoor sightseeing demanding.
