Weather in Taiwan

The best time to visit Taiwan is during autumn, from October through December, when the island enjoys clear skies, comfortable temperatures ranging from 20 to 28°C, and the harvest season brings extra vitality to local markets and festivals. The famous Tainan Confucius Temple rituals and various indigenous harvest festivals fall within this window. This season offers ideal conditions for hiking in Taroko Gorge and cycling around Sun Moon Lake without the intense humidity of summer.

Spring (March to May) is another wonderful period, particularly for visiting the northern regions around Taipei and Jiufen, where cherry blossoms and azaleas paint the hillsides in vivid color. The summer months of June through September bring the highest temperatures, significant humidity, and typhoon risk — particularly August and September when powerful storms can temporarily disrupt transportation and close mountain roads. Winter (January to February) is mild in the south but can be rainy and cool in Taipei, though Chinese New Year celebrations during this period make it a uniquely festive time to visit.
