Weather in Timor-Leste

The best time to visit Timor-Leste is during the dry season, which runs from approximately May through November. During these months, rainfall is minimal, roads in the mountainous interior are more navigable, and the sea conditions around Dili and Atauro Island are generally calm and clear — perfect for the excellent diving and snorkeling that draws most visitors. June through August offers the most consistently pleasant weather, with daytime temperatures around 26–30°C and low humidity making outdoor exploration comfortable.

The wet season from December through April brings heavy and sometimes torrential rainfall, particularly across the mountainous interior. Flash flooding can make many rural roads impassable, and some villages become entirely cut off. However, the wet season also transforms the landscape into lush tropical green, waterfalls swell to spectacular volume, and rice fields glow emerald in the valleys. October and November are transitional months that can combine reasonable weather with the tail end of the diving season and are worth considering for budget-conscious travelers seeking fewer crowds.
