Weather in Tunisia

The ideal time to visit Tunisia is during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when temperatures are warm and pleasant across the country without the intense summer heat. Spring brings wildflowers to the northern hills and comfortable temperatures averaging 18°C to 25°C (64°F to 77°F), making it perfect for exploring ancient ruins and the medinas of Tunis, Kairouan, and Sousse. Autumn offers similar conditions with the added bonus of warm sea temperatures perfect for swimming along the Mediterranean coast.

Summer, from June to August, brings intense heat to the interior and southern desert regions, with temperatures frequently exceeding 40°C (104°F) in places like Tozeur and Douz. The coast, however, remains a popular summer destination for Tunisians and Europeans alike, with the resorts of Hammamet, Sousse, and Djerba busy with beach tourism. Winter (December to February) is mild on the coast but cold in the mountains and at night — a fine time for those who want to avoid crowds and explore cultural sites in near-perfect quiet. Visiting the Sahara is actually most comfortable in winter when daytime temperatures in the desert are agreeable rather than punishing.
