Weather in Vanuatu

The ideal time to visit Vanuatu is during the dry season, which runs from May through October. During these months rainfall is low, humidity drops to comfortable levels, and temperatures sit between 20°C and 27°C — perfect for diving, hiking, and exploring outer islands. The sea is calm and visibility underwater can exceed 30 metres. May is particularly special if you want to witness the Naghol land diving ceremony on Pentecost Island, which only takes place over four consecutive Saturdays between April and June.

The wet season from November through April brings higher temperatures, heavy tropical downpours, and the risk of cyclones — Vanuatu is one of the world's most cyclone-prone countries and has experienced devastating storms in recent years. However, if budget is a priority, wet season rates are significantly lower and the landscape is at its most lush and vivid. Diving conditions can still be excellent between rain showers. If you're heading specifically to see Mount Yasur erupting dramatically on Tanna, the volcano performs year-round — you simply need clear weather for the hike up the crater rim.
