Weather in Yemen

Under normal circumstances — and in the hope that peace will eventually make travel possible again — the best time to visit Yemen would be during the cooler months from October through April. The highlands, including Sana'a and the Haraz Mountains, experience a surprisingly temperate climate year-round given their altitude of 2,200–3,000 metres, with comfortable daytime temperatures of 18–25°C during the cooler season. The monsoon months of June through September bring rainfall to the highlands and the southern coast, turning the terraced agricultural landscapes intensely green and beautiful, but making some mountain roads impassable. The coastal regions around Aden and the Tihama plain are hot and humid year-round, with summer temperatures regularly exceeding 40°C.

Socotra Island, Yemen's ecological jewel, has its own seasonal rhythms driven by the monsoon. The island is accessible from approximately October through May — the southwest monsoon that strikes from June through September brings powerful winds and heavy swells that make sea transport hazardous and even aviation difficult. The period from December through February is generally considered the best time for visiting Socotra, with calmer weather, good visibility for wildlife observation, and conditions ideal for exploring the island's famous dragon blood trees, white sand beaches, and extraordinary endemic flora.
