Weather in Angola

Angola has two distinct seasons — a dry season (cacimbo) and a wet season — and the timing varies somewhat between the north and south. For Luanda and the northern coastal regions, the dry season runs roughly from June to September, offering cooler, clearer weather ideal for city exploration and coastal activities. This is generally considered the best time to visit the capital. Temperatures during the dry season hover around 22–26°C, and the persistent coastal fog (garoa) that characterises cacimbo can be atmospheric rather than inconvenient.

For wildlife viewing in Kissama National Park and exploring the southern highlands around Lubango, the dry season from May to October is optimal — wildlife concentrates around water sources, and road conditions are significantly better without the rains. The wet season (October to April in the south, year-round in the far north) brings lush greenery and dramatic waterfalls, including the magnificent Kalandula Falls which flow at their most impressive after the rains. If witnessing Angola's waterfall spectacle is your priority, visiting in March or April when rainfall is tapering off but rivers are still full offers the best balance of access and drama.
