Weather in Bahamas

The best time to visit the Bahamas is from mid-December through April, during the dry season when weather is reliably sunny, temperatures are warm but not sweltering (24°C–28°C/75°F–82°F), and trade winds provide comfortable relief from the heat. This peak season coincides with the winter escape season for North Americans and Europeans, which means higher prices, fully booked resorts, and Nassau's cruise port at its most hectic. New Year's Junkanoo (starting 26 December) is a spectacular reason to visit Nassau during this period.

The shoulder months of May and June offer excellent conditions with fewer visitors and lower prices before the summer peak. July and August bring the hottest and most humid weather, with sea temperatures rising pleasantly for swimming but land temperatures becoming sticky. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June through November, with the greatest risk from August to October — the northern Bahamas can be directly in the path of major Atlantic hurricanes, so travel insurance covering hurricane disruption is essential if visiting during this period. The Exumas are spectacular year-round for those willing to sail between islands, with the clearest, calmest water during the December–April dry season.
