Weather in Bangladesh

The best time to visit Bangladesh falls squarely between November and February, when the monsoon has retreated, temperatures are mild (20°C to 28°C), and the landscape is at its most photogenic — rivers are full but not flooding, the paddy fields are bright green after the harvest, and the air is clear enough to see the Himalayas from the north on exceptionally clear days. December and January are the coolest months and ideal for exploring Dhaka's old quarter on foot and for boat trips through the Sundarbans without suffering the oppressive heat. The Pohela Boishakh celebrations in mid-April mark the Bengali New Year and are spectacular, though temperatures are rising sharply by then.

Avoid June through September if possible, as the monsoon brings intense, sustained rainfall that causes widespread flooding — roads become rivers, transportation is severely disrupted, and travel outside major cities requires real flexibility and patience. That said, the monsoon has its own austere beauty for travellers who embrace it, and river journeys during this period show Bangladesh in its most elemental, watery form. October sees the tail end of the rains and the spectacular Durga Puja festival, making it an interesting shoulder-season choice.
