Weather in Belgium

Belgium rewards visits throughout the year, but the sweet spot falls between April and October when the weather is most reliably pleasant and the full range of outdoor activities, street markets, and festivals are operating. May and June offer warm temperatures (17°C to 22°C), long days, and the beautiful spectacle of spring flowers in the Ardennes and the Belgian coast coming alive after winter. The Ghent Festival (Gentse Feesten) in late July transforms the entire city centre into ten days of free music, street theatre, and general exuberance, drawing over a million visitors.

Summer from July through August brings warmer temperatures and peak tourist crowds at Bruges and Brussels, but the outdoor café culture is irresistible and beer gardens across Flanders operate at full throttle. Autumn from September through October is spectacular in the Ardennes, where the forests turn copper and gold — ideal for hiking and cycling, and the Belgian beer calendar reaches its peak with harvest ales and seasonal brews. Winter has its own considerable charm: Brussels's Christmas market around the Grand Place is among Europe's finest, with mulled wine (glogg) and nativity scenes, and the quiet off-season makes Bruges particularly atmospheric when the day-tripping crowds have gone home.
