Weather in Cook Islands

The Cook Islands enjoy a tropical climate year-round, but the best time to visit is during the dry season from April to November. This period brings lower humidity, less rainfall, cooler evenings, and the clearest lagoon conditions for snorkeling and diving. May through October is particularly pleasant — daytime temperatures hover around 26°C, the trade winds provide a refreshing breeze, and the sea conditions around Aitutaki and Rarotonga are reliably calm and visibility-rich.

The wet season from December to March coincides with the cyclone season in the South Pacific. While actual cyclone strikes are not guaranteed, this period brings heavier and more frequent rainfall, higher humidity, and occasional tropical storms that can disrupt travel and outdoor activities. However, this is also when the islands are lushest and greenest, accommodation prices drop significantly, and the islands are at their quietest and most locally authentic. The annual Te Maeva Nui cultural festival in late July and early August celebrates Cook Islands independence with spectacular dance competitions and cultural events.
