The best time to visit Nigeria is during the cool, dry season from November to February, when temperatures are lower and humidity is reduced — particularly in Lagos and the south, which can be oppressively hot and humid during other months. This period also coincides with the harmattan season in the north, when hazy winds blow down from the Sahara; while visibility can be reduced, the cooler temperatures make exploration of northern cities like Kano and Abuja far more comfortable.

March to May marks the dry season transitioning to wet in the south, with rising temperatures and humidity. The wet season from June to October brings heavy rainfall, particularly in the south where flooding can affect roads and travel logistics. However, the Jos Plateau and other highland areas remain cooler and more pleasant year-round. Nigeria's festival calendar is rich — the Argungu Fishing Festival in February, the Durbar festivals of Kano and Katsina during Islamic holidays, and Lagos's art and music festivals all provide compelling reasons to visit at specific times.
