Weather in Oman

The best time to visit most of Oman is from October through April, when temperatures are mild and pleasant — typically 20 to 30°C along the coast and in the mountains. The winter months of December through February are the coolest and most comfortable, making them ideal for exploring the Hajar Mountains, visiting Muscat's sights, and camping in Wahiba Sands. The sea is warm year-round, and turtle nesting on Ras al-Hadd beach occurs from May through September, with hatchlings emerging from July through October — an extraordinary natural spectacle accessible with a guide.

The one major exception to the rule of visiting in cooler months is the southern province of Dhofar and the city of Salalah, which transforms completely during the khareef monsoon season from June through September. While the rest of the Arabian Peninsula bakes in extreme heat, Dhofar is drenched in mist and rain, the mountains and valleys turn startlingly green, and waterfalls cascade from clifftops into the Arabian Sea. The Khareef Festival in Salalah each August draws hundreds of thousands of Omani and Gulf visitors to enjoy the cooler temperatures, music, and celebrations. Avoid planning coastal visits for the peak summer months of July and August unless you are heading specifically to Dhofar or have heat tolerance.
