About Pakistan

Pakistan is a country of jaw-dropping natural beauty and profound historical depth that is only just beginning to emerge on the global travel map. For decades, a combination of political instability, regional conflicts, and negative media portrayals kept adventurous travellers at bay — but those who made the journey discovered one of the most spectacular and welcoming destinations on earth. Pakistan sits at the heart of one of the oldest and most consequential corridors of human history. The Indus Valley Civilisation, which flourished from around 3300 to 1300 BC, produced the cities of Mohenjo-daro and Harappa — urban centres with sophisticated grid planning, drainage systems, and writing that rival anything contemporary in Egypt or Mesopotamia. The region was subsequently crossed and contested by Alexander the Great, the Mauryan Empire of Ashoka, the Kushans, the Guptas, and the Sassanid Persians before the arrival of the Umayyad Arabs in 711 AD brought Islam to the Sindh region, beginning a transformation that would define the territory's identity.

The Mughal Empire, founded by Babur in 1526, made Lahore one of its greatest capitals, leaving behind the Badshahi Mosque, the Lahore Fort, and the Shalimar Gardens as monuments of extraordinary ambition and beauty. British colonisation from the mid-nineteenth century reshaped the political and economic landscape, and the partition of the Indian subcontinent in August 1947 created Pakistan as a homeland for the Muslims of British India — a traumatic event involving massive population displacement, communal violence, and the deaths of between one and two million people that continues to shape the subcontinent's geopolitics today.

Culture & People

Pakistani culture is one of South Asia's richest and most diverse, encompassing dozens of ethnic groups — Punjabi, Sindhi, Pashtun, Baloch, Mohajir, Balti, and many more — each with its own language, traditions, music, and cuisine.
