The best time to visit Turkey depends heavily on which region you plan to explore. For Istanbul and the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts, spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) offer warm, sunny weather, lower tourist density than peak summer, and ideal conditions for sightseeing. Temperatures in Istanbul range from 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F) during these shoulder seasons, making outdoor exploration comfortable. Coastal resort areas like Bodrum, Antalya, and Fethiye are most vibrant from June through August, though they become crowded and accommodation prices peak sharply.

Cappadocia is magnificent in all seasons but particularly spectacular in winter, when snow dusts the fairy chimneys and hot air balloon flights depart over a white landscape. The Eastern Anatolia region, including Mount Ararat and the ancient city of Van, is best visited between June and September when mountain roads are accessible. Summer (July-August) brings intense heat to southeastern Anatolia, including sites like Sanliurfa and Göbekli Tepe — earlier morning visits and loose clothing are essential. Winter in coastal areas is mild but wet, making it a quiet, affordable time to explore historic sites without crowds. Ramadan, which shifts each year, affects restaurant hours and the atmosphere in more conservative regions.
