Weather in Venezuela

Venezuela has two distinct seasons: the dry season (verano) from December through April, and the wet season (invierno) from May through November. For most travellers the dry season is the optimal time to visit. Roads are passable, jungle trekking is more comfortable, and river and waterfall excursions in the Gran Sabana operate smoothly. The months of January through March are particularly pleasant, with clear skies, lower humidity, and the landscape at its golden-grass best across the Llanos. This is also peak season for birdwatching in the Llanos, when wildlife congregates around remaining water sources.

For Angel Falls, the wet season (particularly July through September) is paradoxically the best time to visit: heavy rains feed the Churún River and send the falls thundering at full volume, visible from aircraft and riverboats kilometres away. During the dry season the falls can reduce to a thin ribbon. The Los Roques Archipelago is gorgeous year-round but best between December and April when seas are calmer. The Andes around Mérida are cool throughout the year — bring layers whatever month you visit. Always check current travel advisories from your government before planning any trip to Venezuela.
