Weather in Western Sahara

The best time to visit Western Sahara is from October through April, when temperatures are dramatically cooler than the brutal summer heat and conditions for travel are far more pleasant. October and November offer warm days — around 25°C to 30°C — and comfortable nights, ideal for exploring desert landscapes and coastal routes. The Atlantic coast benefits from a moderating oceanic influence, making the shoreline and Dakhla lagoon pleasant even in summer when inland temperatures can be extreme.

Winter months from December through February are the most comfortable for overland desert travel, with mild daytime temperatures and cold nights that remind you that the Sahara is not always a furnace. Dakhla's kitesurfing and windsurfing season peaks from November through February when trade winds are most consistent. Summer — June through September — brings intense heat inland (often exceeding 45°C in the interior) but the coast remains relatively temperate thanks to the cold Canary Current. Dust storms (sirocco-like events) can occur at any time of year, particularly in spring, temporarily reducing visibility to near zero across the desert roads.
